To minimize cranial exposure to ionizing radiation, 10MD has developed HeadPeace, which has recently proven its functionality and comfortability in clinical studies at Halland Regional Hospital.
10MD has completed a project together with researchers at the Centre for HealthTechnology Halland (HCH), at Halmstad University, Sweden. The objective was to investigate how external load may affect head and work posture utilizing anthropometrics, biomechanics and ergonomics parameters in a clinical environment. The project was carried out with the departments of Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Surgery at Halland Regional Hospital. The clinical test confirmed that HeadPeace provides good comfort and good usability in clinical environments. The HeadPeace project was funded and managed by HCH.
“These very promising results from customer evaluations will support the use of HeadPeace and will boost market introductions,” says Mrs Petra Apell, one of the founders of 10MD.
The dosage of ionizing radiation among interventional cardiologists is the greatest registered by any medical staff using X-rays. To mitigate the risk of radiation exposure, the use of leaded aprons, thyroid protection and glasses are mandatory. However, the operators’ legs, arms, neck, and cranium are not fully protected. To minimize cranial exposure to ionizing radiation, 10MD has developed a new, unique head protection device – HeadPeace. Following a regulatory approval, HeadPeace is the innovative and comfortable way to protect medical personnel from scatter radiation during any interventional procedure. HeadPeace is based on the unique patented lightweight, lead-free and woven composite NAFT.
HCH is a health innovation arena within Halmstad University and is funded by the European Union and the Region of Halland.
